There are five or seven things that the bride should always wear on her wedding day as a sign of good luck (if she wishes, of course).
Do you already know what we are talking about?
We are talking about significant objects, able to excite both the bride and the guests themselves. After all, isn't marriage the celebration of love par excellence?
So, why say no to symbols full of love and affection.
Something old.
What is old represents a connection with the past, one’s origins and family. Wearing a jewel or an heirloom, the veil of the mother or for the more traditionalists, a wedding dress handed down, means bringing into the present and new life your roots creating a bridge between what it was and what it is.
Something new.
The new symbolises the future and serves as a good omen for the life to come. Marriage is the very first step towards building a life together and the birth of a new family.
Something borrowed.
It’s a real token of love, because the object given to the bride has to be something you’re particularly attached to. The meaning is that of protection and happiness for the future. Whether it’s the veil or the garter: give free rein to the imagination and make your bride happy.
Something blue.
What colour could describe the purity and sincerity of the bride better than the colour of the sky? An accessory, a shade of the bridal dress, a flower of the bride’s hairstyle or even the ribbon sewn into the lining of the garter: even a small touch will make the difference!
A coin in the Bride’s shoe.
The Anglo-Saxon tradition suggests to put in the left shoe of the bride a small coin. Some brides for comfort have it sewn inside the dress, as a symbol of prosperity, well-being and wealth. Truth or fiction? In doubt... try it!
Allow me to point out two variants, to be added or replaced with the five previously described.
Something donated.
The meaning, in this case, is more or less the same described for something borrowed namely affection and love for the bride. A pair of pearl earrings, for example, offered as a gift by the mother-in-law to the future daughter-in-law could represent a joyful and warm welcome in the family.
Something red.
Symbol of love and fecundity: a thread of lipstick may be enough, but often red accessories are worn by the bride as it is a glamorous and trendy colour. Also in this case, the important thing is not to give up on it completely.
Were you aware of these small items to take with you during your most important day? And above all, did you know the meaning of each one of it?
